About me
I am a qualified psychodynamic counsellor, which means I work in depth in a psychoanalytically informed way. I also hold a postgraduate diploma in working with young people. I work with adults in Cheltenham and online.
Background
Before training as a therapist, I worked for many years as an editor in publishing after graduating with a degree in English Literature. That experience continues to shape how I listen – particularly to what feels unfinished, ambiguous, or resistant to neat formulation. I am very interested in exploring creativity as a way of deepening the work we do together.
Alongside my general work with adults, I have experience working with women reflecting on different stages of life, and with people who identify as neurodivergent, including ADHD or autism. I don’t see these as labels to impose, but as aspects of experience that may become important when they feel relevant to the person.
I continue to develop my practice through regular supervision and ongoing professional learning. My current areas of research lie in the possibility of self-understanding through creative work, found for example in the work of Marion Milner; the psychological and physical challenges of moving through the perimenopause; developing a deeper understanding of neurodivergence.
I sit on the Ethics Committee for Wessex Counselling and Psychotherapy and am a member of the Oxford Psychotherapy Society. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and a registrant of the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC). Both these bodies uphold the strictest ethical standards among their membership in order to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the public.
